With Fenix, Penta, and Giulia already taking L's and TSC disagreeing with this......the question remains

Well, I never liked the whole bring a new guy in, make him look unbeatable just to be building him up for the top babyface. It's such an old trope.

Once they lose they are on a downward spiral

At least a month, and even then it should be in a big 1 on 1 match if it has to happen.

It makes ZERO fuccking sense to beat someone you want to establish who is unestablished.

Kevin Owens
Desmond Wolfe
Kane
Rusev
Asuka
Samoa Joe
Solo
Etc.

All examples of how you keep a wrestler white hot by not beating them.

You can look at Jacob too even though that’s more hhh being too p*ssy too book him in singles matches.

Depends on how over they are, and how much potential you see in them.

Keep elevating them up the card over time until it feels like that should be their home for the timebeing. Let them cook and win some feuds before you decide if he's tapped out for now with some stuff to learn, or let's push him further up and see if they do well there as well.

Then you think about who in this space deserves to get the W over them. Which could be another guy with similar trajectory, or an established champion in that part of the card.

The idea is when they take the L, it should be to someone as over or more over, so you don't lose faith in them. "The rub" in effect.

Sorry smart mark. Sorry internet fan. Goldberg made a bigger impact than most of your favorites.

Wrestling should be about telling a story.

Goldberg’s story was that he was unbeatable, keep him undefeated for a while.

You could have a heel cheat a newcomer out of his first match and set up a feud if you did it the right way. It shouldn’t matter honestly, it depends on what story you’re trying to tell :manny:

Depends on the worker amd if they are a natural heel or babyface.

If they are a natural heel.
If ypu want said heel to be of any type of draw.

You have to have said heel go over, until said top drawing babyface is undeniably the top draw crowned at the largest drawing event.

Example.

Wrath jobbing to nash
then, Goldberg losing to kevin nash at starrcade. Totally damaging the promotion beyond repair. Then the subsequent worst booking decision in wrasslin, the finger poke of doom. Being the first loss for nash. Being built up as the top unbeatable heel. With a finisher of death in the poochie bomb. Yet the fibger poke of doom. Ruined both the heel poochie bomb finish. As well as ruined any babyface.
in that time in wcw from being viable. where the company's three top draws, rwo babyfaces and heel. Were destroyed off the loss from the finger poke of doom.

in wwe....

mankind coming back from retirement and not being booked to win the wwe title. Or the rock being booked as a face champion over cripple ache. That wwe still has and will never recover.
to create another boom period.

Alberto del rio,....
By jobbing del rio to edge at manja. It totally ruined any draw for wwe investing in the build for del rio.
Plus the company totally ruined amy convincability of their heels moving forward. That it took roman to re-establish the idea that wwe even had heels who could be a main event draw with convincability.

shinsuke nakamura not being booked verse brock at mania for the wwe title and going over. Ehen nakamura never faced brock. Plus never won. It made nakamura damaged goods beyond repair.
as it made nakamura appear lacking in convincability. That nakamura never recovered. As well as damaged the character trajectory and lineage of nakamura as a domestic draw.

When done right.

It should be raven in wcw. Till raven jobbed to goldberg.

That is how you correctly present the first loss of a building draw in a promotion.

if you're making a big deal about the wrestler, they should at least win their first 2-3 matches, with no more than 5 wins unless you're building them as a monster.

for example, when they call up Oba Femi I want him to either immediately win a mid card title or the world title. I dont expect either to happen though.

Just depends on the performer and situation. Penta and Fenix are average size babyfaces, it makes zero sense to have them be unbeatable or whatever.

Depends on the investment..are they drawing? They a good worker? Money promos? Physical charisma?
RVD was a good spot worker..they had him go over everyone in 01 but then Cripple H never put him over in 02. Goldberg drew in WCW..came in with Rock helping him out..Cripple H stopped him dead at SummerSlam 03. Asuka had the matches and physical charisma but they obsessed over their great blonde hope in Charlotte. Depends.

People who still think wins and losses mean more than presentation are so lost lol

In 2021/22 we saw Seth Rollins lose 80% of his matches while becoming the most over guy on the roster lol. So much that they were forced to turn him face

That shyt is not that important. Dom is in the same position currently. He JUST started winning.

Undefeated Streaks are one of the laziest booking decisions in wrestling imo

They hardly work or have a decent payoff but it depends on if the wrestler a giant or power wrestler that it actually believable that they can be seen as unbeatable

It only worked on Asuka because she was already a feared wrestler in the women’s division & she was physically more intimidating the most in the division at that time

But a wrestler should go no more than a month undefeated

Rey is fine Penta is Fine

Giulia losing her first night on the Main Roster when she was just at the forefront of what people dub the best women’s division in the business was just a terrible decision though
