Good question. I have a co-worker (white woman in her 50's) that has been getting active since the judgement. She has been getting petitions to get it on ballot here in Michigan so the right can become law. The funny part is she's been trying to get her friends/associates to sign the petitions, come out to protest and it's been pretty tough. She's having to drive all over to bring them the petitions, no one showed up to protest downtown this past weekend etc. I think she's beginning to realize that a lot of white folks either don't really care or are actually against abortion and just say all that cool liberal stuff on social media. They even mentioned on the news during the protests at the SCOTUS building that they had expected way more people to be there considering how big of a deal this was.

Harsh reality.

America is sleep walking into a far right theocracy.

I expected there to be a lot more protests as well. I think a lot of white people don't care because they're under the assumption that it will only impact poor women of color.

Either that or people just don't care, are distracted, or have just given up hope that any amount of protesting can make a change.

It's definitely a combination of both as the majority of people aren't and haven't gotten abortions out here as social media and the news would have you believe. Even if they were, they aren't going to be out there protesting or saying it publicly because they'll still have to deal with the shame from their friends and family about it.

The majority of people I meet that are vehemently against abortion are women. Most men really don't care that much at all. The coli is bizarro world with the 'outrage' about this because in the real world I have heard NOBODY talking about this. These hardcore pro-choice broads are gonna have to hold their own ovaries as the original tweet says.

I think that would apply to people who have had an abortion (especially older women/couples) but not people who think it should be a right. Although I will say my co-worker mentioned that her husband who is a local contractor would not go to the protest fearing potential loss of clients. But again I think a lot of this has to do with white folks in particular saying one thing publicly but do something entirely different in the voting booth/policy advocacy.

A lot of moving parts in this when you think about it.

You shouldn‘t trust everything that people say and do publicly anyways as you’ll never know how they’ll vote once they actually get into the booth.
