Depends on the artist. If you're on a Major & the music you're making is already buzzing you have much greater control over what Single goes to radio ala Kendrick Lamar as opposed to dropping brick after brick & then forcing the label to step in & put their ears on a Record ala Donnis...

That's another problem... people think if a song makes people dance it will automatically be a hit when half of the songs in the Top 40 are acoustic... this is something Country has figured out that Hip Hop hasn't...

He really dropped the ball with 'Pop Them Thangs' too

It was the strangest shyt...

Atlantic signed him because he was an ATL cat making dope club/party & songs for the ladies & just overall fun music...

Then he all of a sudden starts making this Drake-esque "nikkas didn't believe in me" ass music... :userious:

After a while he just kept dropping mixtape after mixtape that wasn't pushing the numbers he'd hoped and asked Atlantic to release him from his contract because he felt like they weren't supporting his new "vision"... :manny:

never thought of it like this, but you're right, these rap ninjas all trying to make the same song over and over thinking thats how you make hits and apparently its not. :lolbron:
