I'm thinking of starting a SoundCloud.

I know that a lot of posters in "the tunnel" got one, but in general how many people on this site have one where they uploaded original audio (even if it was a long time ago)?

If you are serious, copyright your music first if they are original compositions otherwise you are putting yourself in position to get got.
Has that happened to you or any of your peoples?

I was thinking for starters to just use public domain beats.

I had one a spell ago :wow: . I used to have a little bit of a following over there. Sadly, the platform itself is so damn bipolar that I just deleted my account and never looked back.

During the era of "future beats" and Lo-Fi, it was incredible, now...you might as well go the Spotify/Bandcamp route.

Especially Bandcamp:ehh:

I use mine for comedy, music, and podcasting. The host you on Spotify, apple, and Amazon pretty easily so that's why I got premium.

Some people I used to run with. They took the L and moved on, some quit.
If you are in a location where there is a strong scene, you should use your SC as a resume.
Keep the good beats in the tuck and network. When I had a SC, I posted demos I wasn't going to finish.
@Universal Koala is right, Bandcamp has been the formal platform in my experience.
If you labor for your craft, it is too much information out there now to protect you from getting jerked.
Off and on, I'm working on an album with no foreseeable release.
When I finish, profitable or not, I was going to copyright it and shop it or release it on my own dime to specific markets.
You gotta look at your music as an investment even as a hobby.

Square biz. Like I actually made profit off of my beat tapes on my Bandcamp (not on the level of friggin Knx, but some good change). Also, folks sleep on this platform, but Audiomack is pretty good if you want to have a in depth look of how you are doing with stats.

Also, Mixcloud works well if you trying to make live beat sessions or host beat tapes for promotion. and profit.

All and all, the grind doesn't stop. If you are legit with the beats, don't sit on that shyt. The only reason why I stopped was because of burnout, focusing on being a writer, and quite frankly I don't really care for music like that (outside of my weird taste in Vaporwave).

How popular and far reaching hip-hop is, there is always money in it on most levels.
I didn't make beats though, the circumstances were different.
I experienced a serious shift and got deeper into jazz and classical at the end of high school.
My peers were either doing indie rock or beats, so the lane for me wasn't there.
I graduated and started exploring academia and writing after a couple sessions I had to record some demos.
Been thinking about buying some better instruments and starting over.
