How much does artist authenticity mean to you? Do you care?

Do you care at all or is it just about the music period for you?

I was thinking about this when Cubes old music (true to the game) came up on a Playlist. Song still incredible, but felt different in light of his heel turn. On the other hand I saw Rick Ross as a character from day one and I was working out to his music the other day.

Remember how alicia keys career took a downturn (perception wise) when the Swizz shyt was revealed and it didn't match the ethos she promoted in her music?

Does it matter to you?

If you love Princes music...hypotheticaly would you give a shyt if he'd never had sex?

If you love Curtis Mayfield music..would care if hypotheticaly it came to light he didn't care at all about social awareness?

If you loved Futures music....would you care if he publicly renounced lean but still.rapped about it?

I think it's more sad the fact that so much of hip-hop's music production is actually non-Black. shyt a lot of the beats are made by kids overseas now.

Got rappers disrespecting each other, men talking shyt about women, women talking shyt about men, etc.

All on some suburban kids' beats talkin' bout "__ started beef wit __ on my beat!! :gladbron::krs:"
Go to Spotify, then a playlist like Rap Caviar and check the producer credits. Then look up that producer on ig and see what they look like.
I guess that's what happens though when everybody around the world are uploading beats for cheap.

I don't care at all. Don't care if they are "plants" or not if the music is good.

To me, it matters because some artists I come into contact with and have to work with.

I just don’t appreciate the fake even though I realize you have to/need to/should spend more time with a person to truly understand them.

I’m just not for going with an image because it works for sales/attention. But, I also realize depending on the artist, sometimes their public image is out of their control outside of preserving the perception.

Then there’s the case of people just growing in general…

Not huge but I don’t appreciate when they lie about their backgrounds/invent stories outside of the actual music. I don’t feel entitled to a celeb’s personal story but why present something other than what’s in your creative mind and not leave it at that?

What he said in the song is how he felt then, and people respond(ed) to it because of the truths in it. Those truths haven't changed so the song still holds up.

All any of it shows is how important what you surround yourself with, what you listen to and absorb all the time, is ultimately important to the truth of what you think/feel/say today, tomorrow, whenever. Garbage in, garbage out. The circles he's been moving in recently are affecting his worldview; the man is human like anybody else.
