It's hard to save right now especially if you have a family with prices of food, energy, gas, etc going up. Just try to stay out of debt. Do you really have savings anyway if you got a student loan, mortgage, car note or credit card bills?

Ideally:

- as much as you can!
- what I’ve always heard was “enough to cover at least 3 months of your bills/expenses”

I would say i'm comfortable with 6 months worth of expenses in cash. My actual savings, I think if you can max out your 401k and IRA on a yearly basis, you're already doing what most can't. Add in a few hundred per month here and there, you're on your way!

if u just talking about your savings account. 3-6 months of expenses is what ive always heard. But really its whatever amount helps u not stress about finances or emergencies. Id say 1-2k for emergencies is the bare minimum anything less than that u are in a big danger zone

if u talking about retirement it depends on how u want to be living when u retire
