How much weight do you put on symbolic gestures?

A fleeting childhood
I thought about making a White House petition to have the president issue an official apology for various "race riots" (mass murders) that occurred in the first three decades of the 1900s but what would that really accomplish? Why beg for a bullshyt apology? These people are deceased and their children had to live through Jim Crow era hostilities. On the flip side, I know there are active groups going back through civil rights cases to clear the names of men and women that have been murdered or spent the entire remaining portion of their life behind bars.

Thoughts?

i actually like the idea alot. we all know he wont, cheeto doesnt apologize for anything ever
but i think its important that we consistently show others/ reinforce just what human garbage he is.
will it change any minds? probably not, but what it can do is keep reminding these demons the evil they have done
and hopefully draw us as a community even closer.

im also glad that people are pursuing old cases, its sickening that the lying accuser of Emitt Till has been free to live her life in comfort after sentencing a black child to death.

we need to pressure Trumps highly visible Black surrogates too. Omorosa and Carson and *insert c00n here*
why would anyone reject the idea of an apology for the historical wrongs commited against us?
:mjpls:

great thread idea op

I agree with Black Pearl. If you believe in it do it. If nothing else more people will learn something. It's not hard to start a petition and you never know what could happen, but if you don't even try you know nothing will happen for sure.

If you don't mind my commenting on this, it's something similar going on right now in India.

In Calcutta, which used to be the capital and the seat of power during the British Raj, this beautiful building was constructed and dedicated to Victoria after her death.

Victoria-Memorial-Hall-Kolkata.jpg

It's called the Victoria Memorial Hall and it today exists as a monument and a museum showcasing the "good side" of British rule in India.

A few days ago an Indian politician suggested that the building should be converted into a museum that displays all of the atrocities committed in India by the British during the Raj - famines, massacres, looting and plunder, narcotics trafficking, conspiracy, forced labour, debt bondage, destruction of Indian industries, etc.

Tharoor said, “I was thinking of the irony – the magnificient and beautiful monument which is also at the same time evidence of the monstrous exploitation of this country by the people who built it in the name of a particular queen."

“My strong view is that we should convert the Victoria Memorial into the world’s premiere museum of displaying [the] loot and expoloitation of British Colonialism in India,” he added.

Straight away a lot of Indian c00ns bust out that "it's all in the past, we need to move on and look to the future"; "if we do this UK will cut aid to India"; "colonialism wasn't that bad because everyone was doing it, there's no obligation on world powers to behave ethically in conquered lands", etc. :mjpls: Firangi loving motherfukkers :pacspit: (firangi is our word for cac)

The more reasonable ones pointed out that what the c00ns were saying was complete bullshyt. Jews never forget the holocaust and everyone in the world is aware of the holocaust because of how repeatedly Jews have drilled that message in public discourse: Hitler = bad, Nazis = bad. Everyone knows this. But people still think Churchill = good, British royal family = good because none of the former colonies have exposed the atrocities.

So I'm saying, these African c00ns who've thrown their lot in with Trump will probably come up with similar talking points - especially the "it's all in the past, the black community needs to move on and focus on the present so we can have a better future instead of wallowing in the past" :mjpls:

No, I was born in new york. Please lemme know your thoughts on the OP
Maybe I got you confused with another poster :yeshrug:
Anyway I support it, regardless of whether the victim is still alive or not b/c at the very least it brings attention to the issue and forces the perpetrators (the whole US really) to confront the truth.

I'd go even further and say we bring charges against the cacs that did all that foul shyt during the civil rights era. They're legit chilling with their grandchildren and shyt perpetrating the same views and even actions today. Shii the old cacette that admitted to fabricating the testimony that got Emitt Till killed is legit making profiting off his lynching by writing a book:scust:
Fukk that! Oh she old and frail?.....shiii let her be old and frail in jail.....Oh she got 7 months to live? Guess she won't mind this life sentence then.... Oh she's an upstanding citizen beloved by her children and great grand children? Aii let em join her in prison then since they more than likely wouldn't be here to begin with if justice was served and her ass was thrown in jail to begin with.
I mean Nazi hunters got a world-wide hall pass to hunt down 98 y.o nazis in Brazil and shyt so it's not exactly w/o precedent.
We know that's not gonna happen tho so I can't really hate on a petition; it's a start

I support the indian politician's suggestion to turn it into a musuem that displays what really happened.

I was debating in my head on how feasible it would be to get to charging those that were a apart of those acts in a court of law. I don't know about what the statue of limitations are & how they'd even go about it since even those that are on video could say it wasn't them and have their cousin confirm an alibi. Competent Pro-Bono lawyers I think would be of more use providing assistance to those that are alive and have a shytty attorney going to trial for them .

My thread actually wasn't about the petition itself but more about the gestures that we see ( Harriet Tubman on the $20 etc) but I'll draft up something in the new few days and bump this thread.

Please still provide your input on either subject if you're reading this thread and haven't replied yet
