Let me give an example. Whenever I go out of town, the 1st thing anybody ask me about is Eminem or Dilla. This ain't a dis to Em (he's great, a legend) but perception-wise , this ain't really his city. For one, he doesn't come out so no one sees him. And obviously, he's not active much rap wise, in his 40's etc. More of the local artists (i.e Peezy, Vezzo) are percieved as the hereos of this city.
So my question is this. How are the national artists percieved? And compare that to how the local artists are percieved. Is Kendrick percieved as the king of Compton, or do they view him like Sirbiatch? Are the Clipse the heroes of Virginia or are there local guys who are? Are Migos really the hottest in ATL? Drake and T-Dot? Or are there lesser known artists. What about New York artists?
