Was 11 when it dropped. Listened to this the other day fully its jiggas best cd by far. Do you think it got slept on 96 due to the standard of quality that was dropping weekly in my favourite era of hip hop?
hell yeah..its RD's true curse..i also felt the the hustler concept that was on RD was done a lot better on smoothe's album..but that's just my opinion

Old enough to drive and cop it on first day:ohlawd:
I have to agree with K Dot. I'm a big fan of Illmatic but I feel Reasonable Doubt a little more

Reasonable Doubt should be compared to It Was Written which it is not better than anyway, hell it isn't better than ILLmatic neither

Still did better than Illmatic and other major label promoted classics from that era, independently :manny:.

So saying that no one was checking for it is completely irrelevant, comparing it to the commercial superstars who were at the Grammys and shyt while he had teams getting locked up for life is completely irrelevant.

It's known that it was indie, it's always the same people just mentioning this dumb super obvious observation. Which is why people get upset.

"Hey let's appreciate the greatness of RD"

And I can bet a stack on someone responding

"It didn't sell any records, it wasn't nominated for Grammys, he wasn't the most added on MTV, he wasn't on the cover of magazines".

But I've never seen you comment on the fact that since 98 he's been leading all those categories, why did you not give BP3 props for winning all those Grammys, selling all those records, topping all those charts. Nah, cause in those cases it's irrelevant.

That is the simple reason to why people shake their head at the same type of cats always mentioning this super stupid and super known fact. Jay himself had mentioned it on about three songs and a bunch of interviews. Motherfukkers mentioning commercial performance while discussing classic music is one of the worst inputs to the discussion of music. Now if we discuss hits, music business, money etc then we have a completely different discussion.

:what:

I don't care about all that. Nobody in my circle or high school or even acquaintances was checking for Jay, outside of 1 guy I knew. It is what it is. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish here. :yeshrug:

Nobody in '96 knew, or gave a fukk about it being indie. He had his videos and songs all over the TV and radio same as anyone else

And "BP3" was ass, so who cares what awards it won?

I'm 30. Always loved this album. In my top 5 for sure.

Oh shyt @raquelmhorn just let me know it's reasonable doubts 18th birthday...so glad we fought to own this 100 percent and it still creates income everyday... Its funny... Me and jay still own this together we might have to do a reasonable tour...maybe for the 20th anniversary...that way we could all make some money... I don't see why he wouldn't...might have to holla #freebiggs

I'm the same age as the album, but didn't hear it until I was 10. Download RD, B1 and BA all at the same time. That was my introduction. Feelin It is still my favourite song.

Japan, but from the 989
I'll be honest. When it came out....nobody was checkin for it. It would either be a friend or a friend of a friend bumpin it. It came out around the time of ATLiens, The Stakes is High, Makaveli... It aged extremely well but during that time it got overlooked. I'm 31 by the way...

I don't understand why people get upset when you say hardly anybody was checking for this. It has nothing to do with the quality of the album, there was just too much shyt coming out back then, from higher profile rappers.

I knew one guy that copped this when it came out. He was :krs: about it so I gave it a spin, liked it a lot. "D'Evils" is still my favorite Jay song.

It was an uphill battle trying to convince people to listen to it though. Most people were listening to BONE, Wu, Outkast, Pac, etc. Then again I'm from the midwest. :manny:
