Baseball: Blue Jays outfielder sidelined by a sneeze

Associated Press

Sunday, March 15, 2015 - 11:19 p.m.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar is being sidelined -- by a sneeze.

Pillar is expected to miss a week to 10 days with an oblique strain suffered while sneezing on Saturday morning.

Pillar, who is in contention for a starting spot, said he sneezed and felt a sharp pain in his right side but opted not to tell team trainers about it until after he was pulled in the fifth inning of Toronto's win over a Yankees split squad. After treatment, Pillar was advised to rest.

"I don't think this is a big deal," Pillar said. "It's something I played with (Saturday) and something I was prepared with to play today. But they're being very respectful about it and willing to give me a little bit of time."

Pillar is batting .269 with one home run and five RBIs in 26 plate appearances this spring.

:mindblown:

I don't follow this trash sport much but I do remember players always suffering quirky injuries like this. I mean got damn, these guys barely move 75% of the time, now you injuring obliques because you sneezed hard?

Another 50 years and this shyt is hockey status. :camby:

the body is one big inter connected system. Unnatural movements can cause strain in areas you wouldn't expect. this was probably a "straw that broke the camels back" type situation where this just trigger what had been building up over time from some other source

nothing to do with baseball being inherently soft breh

Baseball players seem to have low pain thresholds. It appears that the majority of them can't play through pain, no matter how small that pain may appear.

this just seems like conjecture. can you find data to support this claim? the severity of the injuries across various sports matched up with how much time each player is out for?

whats the premise of this thread built off of? that he wont play meaningless spring training games and expose himself to further injury while he has a strained oblique?

how does that make one soft?

this guy is probably 100 times the athlete of anyone on the Coli
