How serious is a felony possession with intent charge?

Is this something will most likely end up with jail time? This kid i know got himself into some trouble.

He's my girl's nephew. Barely 22. He moved here about 6 years ago from Uganda. Long story short he found himself arrested with a charge of possession with intent. He also got another charge for possession of a controlled substance. (not sure what but basically some prescription pills)

I hate when kids from other countries from good families move here and rather than do what they're supposed to and take advantage of the great opportunities afforded to them here (go to school damn near for free and handle their business etc) they start doing dumb sh!t to fit in with the street clones here. Little do they know that the dumb sh!t will not only get them deported but they'll still have to serve their sentence here before uncle Sam sends them back home

ain't shyt... it's not a schedule 1 drug anyway... IF it's his first charge, he'll most likely get it dropped to simple possession and some probation


shyt i just got hemmed with weed... cultivating marijuana, intent to sell, and felony possession... and since it's my first F, VA has a first offender law to stay out of trouble for a year and the charges get dismissed

Some places take those prescription pills seriously. That could have something to do with it

I don't know what state.......without even decent representation, you are looking at a few months, to nearly a year in local custody. Felony guilty plea, criminal record, and deportation, if he is not a citizen. probation for 3-5 years, register as a narcotics offender, fees and fines of about 6,000. A good lawyer will wipe that right off your record, with some classes, community service, fees and fines....Thats the inequality of our justice system in a few sentences.

If it's his first charge he might be able to get it lowered to a misdemeanor if he agrees to go to a few months of diversion classes. Hopefully he didn't talk to the cops without a lawyer present.

He could get by. My first time getting caught up: Trafficking, possession w/ intent, sale of narcotics, sale of narcotics, Possession of unregistered firearm, poss of Marijuana, poss w/intent to distribute. Got a lawyer, ended up doing a year.
