How soon is too soon to job hop?

Especially now in the remote era.

I believe in the next 3-4 few months there’s a 100% chance I’ll land my first career type job.

But I definitely want to job hop for the experience and upward mobility.

How long would y’all recommend to stay in a remote role?

I say 18-months when you first start out, so really by a year and some change you wanna start looking. 1 year only if the situation is dire. I feel 2 yrs is too long because in most cases, by 1 yr in, you should know if a role is right for you.

Only time you want to stay 2yrs is if the position is in a formal training program eg 2 yr rotation or 2yr Analyst -> Snr Analyst.

I'm 5 months in and I'm ready to leave my current job. It feels like a step down from my last job.

There's a different team for everything here. So it cuts down on some of the work that I expected to be doing. And you have to be a year in before you can get a promotion.

They're also talking about a raise and sending me out to the HQ in Europe for a couple of weeks, but I don't care that much.

2 to 3 years if you're in your career and it's not just a "job". You don't want to do it too much or employers will think there is something wrong with you unless you lie about your job history to cover the frequent leaving.

Or if you said yes to the first company that gave you an offer after your last contract finished and now you're bored because you've done this exact same job before and there are no projects…

Consultant/Contractor: You need to be looking for your new job while you're under contract.

FTE: 1.5-2 years between every job. You shouldn't just be looking for salary increases. Look to get seniority and new skills/roles.
