a C-level texas rapper and a member from a group that hadnt really been relevant since the 90s combine to make a grammy-nominated hit

How in the world was this #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (the grand daddy of the singles charts). It's definitely hit material and it was buttressed by Soulja Slim's death so I can understand its vogue at the time somewhat, but #1 on the Hot 100? This was after Juve resigned too. On average there's only 2, maybe 3 if extremely lucky, #1 hip-hop songs per year, even though this was the mid/early 2000's when there were more rap and r'n'b songs blazing the charts at #1 than there are now.



I mean Back That Azz Up is 3x more catchy (imo) and that wasn't even #1

the fact that it wasn't a mannie-fresh produced, drum-laden banger and it caught fire caught me off guard. i'd go to strip clubs and hoes were somehow managing to shake their asses to shyt and it wasnt even your typical fast-paced strip club song.
