How the hell did Kurt Warner win MVP over Michael Strahan/Brian Urlacher in 2001?

Dudes make statements and judgements when they obviously werent even watching like that. Kurt was supposedly somehow was throwing to wide open WRs, yet somehow when he wasnt prime anymore, the Greatest Show on Turf ceased to exist.
wasnt Kurt warner trash the next year leading to Marc Bulger taking over?
How did it cease to exist when Bulger actually started offf well in his career

:dahell: 503 points would've leed thhe league in scoring last year :camby:
What I meant was that while 503 points was all-time stuff in 2001, it now ranks 15th all-time.
The 2013 Broncos scored 606 points.

Warner was Aaron Rodgers with timbs on instead of cleats. Few players terrified people like Moss, Vick, Peppers and Faulk did back then. Warner was one of those guys to me. If he got anything more than 3 seconds, go ahead and count that as a completion.

How many Superbowls did the Rams make it to with Bulger? How many playoff games did they win? How many MVPs for Bulger? 30 td seasons?? As soon as Kurt fell off, they were no longer the GSOT, thet were just a good offensive team. You said well..do you know that Kurt Warner is the last man to win MVP and Superbowl MVP in the same season, to this day??

Nah youre minimizing him. Kurt Warner regularly thread the needle and made incredible throws. If it was all the system, then why was there such a huge dropoff from Warner to.Bulger in personal performance and team success??
To be fair the team fell apart too. The front office began letting starters leave and just promoting the backups among other ways they made an effort to sabotage Mike Martz, and they were public with it. They also drafted like shyt too. Steven Jackson was the only pro bowl player they drafted from I think 2000-2013.

the premise of the thread has less to do with warner and is more about the need for defensive players to be eligible

to me someone like charles woodson deserves an mvp
Honestly the MVP is a shyt award in the nfl simply because roles are so specialized for every position. By default it ends up going to quarterback or running back simply because they touch the ball so much. Offensive player of the year should at least go to receivers more. Even the fact that MVP and OPOY both exist is pointless too since the MVP always goes to offense.

I think he’s the last guy to win the MVP and the championship in the same season at all, let alone super bowl mvp.

he injured his hand in 02 iirc. his mvp level days looked over. then he mentors a rookie Eli and moves to zona where he dominated again

This is one of those threads that I wonder how old OP is. If you were old enough to watch that season it wasnt a question. He was destroying the league. That offense is wild in concept and Warner was the best at it. Same with Joe and the WC offense. Their pass plays had multiple sight adjusts after the snap where the WR didnt really run specific routes. They had to get to specific spots based on what the defense did while also trying to push vertically at all times. That offense doesnt get done now because it's too fukking hard to teach. Warner, ****, Bruce, Faulk, and occasionally Proehl were in sync on a wild level for a few years.

Thats very true, but when Kurt effed his thumb up and his play faltered, they were never close to the same. System be damn..Bulger didnt come close to what Kurt did.

Im in total agreeance. But.truthfully its always been the way. Only two defensive players have ever won it. But you are extremely right about the WRs. Its very boring knowing its gonna be a QB or RB every year. Imo Steve Smith was the most valuable in 05, didnt have a chance in hell, thougg. If Rice didnt win it in 87, no one will.

Yeah I assumed that saying Superbowl MVP means champion. Since outside of 1970, the MVP of the Superbowl was always from the winning team.
