I have a 1 year gap in experience on my resume. My most recent experience was early 2020.

How can I fill that on a resume so that it doesn't reflect badly on me as a candidate?

I was thinking of knocking out some linkedin/google courses and just putting them on my resume for jobs I'm interested in.

My catch all course is gonna be Excel. I am def interested in gaining certificates for entry level PM roles. My fall back is consulting.

You think that would fly in front of a hiring manager?

I did graduate in 2020 so I could claim that I took a gap year and make something up with the above.

Have you considered volunteer time as a possible out? :jbhmm:

It would be wise to list some volunteer activity that aligns with the company’s or their leaderships values. You can just jot down a respectable amount of volunteer hours and put a friend as a plug on the side of a phone number to verify that you participated in said “volunteer activities”.

Interesting, that seems like a legit thing to put down. I'm a little concerned about the values part tho - does a hiring manager actually care about a candidates values or rather if you can actually do the job and have experience doing it?

Something like
"Jan-Aug 2021" - Volunteer Project Coordinator for small non-profit
- Led two teams of 5 volunteers in the creation of COVID response team
- Created and managed program that donated masks, transportation, and essential supplies to over 50 people

Figure that could be a goto for any junior PM roles, prolly make one for consulting too
