Traffic is a huge issue, and those are fairly simple ways to address it for public planners with the power to do so.

But for regular people who don't have that power, here's a better idea. Get a job close to where you live or get a place to live close to where you work.

Studies show that people who make $50-60,000 a year without having to have a commute to work report the same happiness and live satisfaction as people who make $90-100,000 but have a 1-hour commute.

If someone offers you a $25,000 raise but you have to work an hour away, don't take it. It's not just the two hours of your life it takes away each day. It raises your stress levels because you're worried about getting to work on time. Your more haggard when you finally get to work and so you don't do as good a job. You are more exhausted when you get home so you get less satisfaction there too. You have to spend more money on gas, more money on car maintenance, more money on pre-made food because you don't got time to make it at home, etc.

Not to mention the environmental impact of that shyt. Not to mention the positive benefits of working in the same community that you live in and know and understand. People should be living and working in the Black/Brown communities that they're supporting anyway.

Ditch that commute. It just not worth it.

I understand the premise of happiness >> wealth but an extra 25k is huge to most people and suffering a bit to get ahead is a good policy.

Let your capitalist overlords keep telling you that.

Everyone I know who started making $25,000 more a year usually just find $30,000 more shyt to buy, and stay stressed out.

It ain't getting ahead, because life ain't a race you win with the stack o bills you got in the bank.

Those two hours you commuting, it ain't just time and gas money and your own mental health you sacrificing, it's your family's well-being and the good you could be doing for your community too.

I know what it like to pull $100,000+ and I know what it like to make it with $10,000. People need to realize that money not even the 3rd or 4th most important thing when it come to making it in life.

To each his own. :yeshrug:

Every situation is going to be different and that job offering 25k might be on the path to your dream job. Do you suffer the commute and take that chance? I would. I would also suffer just for that extra 25k if I'm making less than 100k. Thats a huge jump in income and helps you not only short-term but in the long haul as well. Money isn't happiness but it relieves stress and provides better opportunities. I'm the type to sacrifice my body while I'm young so that I'm living proper when I'm old.
