I need help ya'll. For the first time since I was like 10 years old, I've decided to grow my hair out. Its been about 4 months since I last got a haircut so I'm in that mini-fro phase. However, I've been running into issues when I sleep. My hair keeps matting up. Especially at the back of the head. I would braid it up if hair was long enough but i'm prolly still a few months out before that becomes an option.

So anyone got any solutions?

yeah, worse part about having an afro was one side always getting flat when u laid down on the couch or summin.

Twist ur hair with your fingers to make mini dreadlocs, then unravel to get that early 2000s John Legend afro texture effect

edit:

Don't listen to the person below me, do not comb or pick your hair out at this length

Simply let it grow, twist and unravel, no combing or picking is necessary

Buy an afro comb and get used to it. Until it grows long enough to be manageable. You're in that dreaded limbo period.

Peep avi. I no longer have an "afro" since I started my dreads, but that shyt was whack. Especially waking up and you didn't have time to shower and picking it out was basically impossible. If I were you is just get twist asap.

I prefer the puffed out look.

shyt. I was dreading this. right now all i've been doing to look presentable is taking a shower and letting nature take it course.

how does that solve the matting issue? i'd still be putting pressure on the back of my head all night.

It helps the fixing up part in the am.

Satin pillowcase helps maintain moisture and stop frizz.

your matte fro wont look as bad in the morning with a regular pillowcase

For my hair, i just put some mango butter hair creme after a shower and go to sleep (with a satin pillowcase). My hair is still flat but i can easy fix it since its curly and moisturized.
