Yea, I said joint because in most states unless a woman is really fukked up you just won’t win. If you’re like a lot of dudes 19-50 years old you may be behind the curve. If this is needed I’ll continue and update. If not, delete and carry yo ass on somewhere. For real
Edit. I’ll keep this on top but already some good replies. This is a general knowledge mixed with personal experience type of informational post. It’ll be updated continuously.
1. Get off your ass and do something about it! And Try to communicate through text and email (especially if ex wife , gf etc ) is abrasive. It’ll give you an archive for court.
2. This one is hard. Even for me. Don’t curse or slander , name call her. Yeah, I know she’s a bytch and he ain’t shyt etc but don’t you put that on social media or tell it to someone over text or email ( remember that archive? Now it’s working against you) if you thought that couldn’t be used to show what type of parent you are you’d be wrong. It counts a great deal.
3. Put the child on your insurance or a plan first. It can greatly reduce your support payments and will show you’re a proactive father. Try to establish a savings or college fund. It isn’t required but it looks good to the court.
4. Try to take a cheap ($35) parenting class or divorce class beforehand. It looks good to the court. Keep your certificates, good for 1 year at least
5. Know that the system doesn’t and will never favor YOU if you’re a man so knuckle up! You need all the help you can get so just know you’ll lose with money etc in the long run but the child is worth it because you’re the father. Life ain’t fair son
6 . Do an in depth parenting plan that splits equal time with you and ex. You want play dates or park times throughout the week? Ask for it! You want child each time on your birthday? Ask for it! You never know, you may be like me and get it! Templates are all over the internet
7. Know and correctly do your assets and income! And request an affidavit or her financial statements. Mfs be hiding money! This is critical. No way a person who makes 36k a year should be paying the same as a person who makes 88k a year! Ask your lawyer to calculate it right and find ways to keep you sane!
8. Get online and look at peers experiences (like me) and the judge presiding over your case if you can so you can get an idea of how he or she looks at things.
9. Be employed or working somewhere doing something! How you crying and shyt but can’t hold down a job? Any job is good. This shows you’re responsible to the court and if you making minimum wage they should give you a break on the support.
