Above the fray.
People talk about the govt. "flooding the ghetto with heroin in the 1970s: and then "flooding the hood with crack in the 1980s". When Rick Ross's name comes up , rarely do I hear the words "traitor" "sellout" or "agent" used. Yet I've heard those terms used to refer to Black people whose actions didn't directly or indirectly do a fraction of the harm that Ross' did. Only thing critical I noted reading about him was a writer calling him a "puppet".

he's significant because he's how we found out about the role the cia played in destroying the Black community in this country.

and because he comes off as a decent dude, despite the fact he sold poison. he's never talked tough or tried to come off as a killer like alotta these nikkas that be on some of these interviews.

Who calls him a hero? :mjlol:
Local figures who operated in the streets become folk heroes in some ways. Their names ring out well after they are locked away or killed. Out in NYC, a guy named Larry Davis got into shootout with the cops......was on the run for a while in a HEAVILY covered news story. Was brought in, and the cops turned out to be crooked / pressing and extorting him. He became a local folk hero to some people.

Freeway Rick's name rang out well past Cali. Like Cory mentioned, his name was in the mix of report when a journalist blew the lid on possible CIA involvement with domestic cocaine pipeline. Street magazines & hood dvds covered his story and he became a folk hero to some people.

The amount of interviews/press he's garnered after his release attests to his popularity.

I was asking why isn't he viewed in a negative light.
