I was born and raised in Oakland
But...
I stay the fuk out now after the street lights come on, on GP

Outside of 2 aunts and 4 cousins
I have no reason to go
they know where I live

When I hit my 24th b-day
I made a decision to stay away at night
Nothing good going on and I know too many people about 'that' life
I'm not

When you outside a club and you see a bunch of schemin' nikkas looking for hoes
but some lookin for issues
with guns visibly packed in there pants like its nothin
thats when you kno you need to make a decision about your safety
I never really tripped on seeing random nikkas packing heat outside of clubs
But one sober night changed all that after seeing the result of an altercation

NYPD in 1994, HELL NO! NYPD in 2014, yes, but it's not the same kind of environment. NYC is nothing like it used to be, I visited in '96 as a youngin' and it was pretty lawless, people dumpin' trash on the street, people getting mugged in the subways, people hoppin the subway entrance in front of the cops without paying , I saw all of this with my own eyes. I can only imagine how the 80s were And yeah, that's wild, doing it on the NEWS camera. If you get pressed in Oakland, give your sh*t up, the police ain't comin' to save you
