How will the proliferation of black characters in media will affect race relations in the future?

I really enjoy watching shows like "Brooklyn Nine Nine" where black characters are in positions of authority and they are shown to be competent and effective. This isn't just about the show though, you guys should check it out but thats besides the point. The point of this thread isn't just black characters period, but Cosby-esque characters who are actually very intelligent and respectable. The thing was that in Cosby's time I would presume this was rarely seen, does the coli think that this being commonplace now will significantly improve how the next few generations of black people and other races interact?

Agreed, but most black media nowadays is TERRIBLE. I still go back and watch episodes of "Martin" and "The Fresh Prince", all these Tyler Perry shows nowadays are fukking unwatchable

That's what I'm thinking. It's no longer the "token" black person who is just along for the ride. I'm talking black people (men and women) in actual positions of authority who are competent at their jobs. "Brooklyn Nine Nine" is a great example for that, again, not advertising the show, but it is a PERFECT example of exactly what I'm talking about. Andre Braugher's character is dope

Thats the problem right there.

Family Matters was a good show until the powers that be decided to milk urkel and take the family values out of it

The issue has so many folds

On one hand, the power of media is repetition. So my solution would be force feed positive images until its considered common and not fantasy. Someone has to be willing to take a L in the pocketbook for the greater good. So one show which some blacks will deem unrealistic flops maybe the next one is a hit.

The problem with this also so many blacks are close minded and wont watch because "Yo, I can relate to that shyt" .."That aint my story...all i know is ( insert stereotypical negative images)"
Blacks need to be more encouraging from parents to kids, from relatives to friends- the more we reinforce positivity the greater the chance the person will internalize it and try to do better.

Of course there are always going to be wayward people who loose in life but we need to catch the ones who have a chance not to follow that path
