This article about Olajuwon made me wonder. We always hold Hakeem on a pedestal (i surely do) when he is discussed but this shyt just reminded me how he asked to be traded many times before they won.
Would he have been a "diva" and a "cancer" in this era? Have racist and delusional fans harassing him on Twitter?

Hakeem Olajuwon
  • called his GM a "fool" in an interview when he said "the organization is run by a bunch of fools"
  • Demanded to be traded many times
  • Was knwon as a coach killer. <-- I have to admit I dont really remember this one
  • Called the team owner a "coward
"

What about Scottie Pippen? My favorite growing up.
  • But Dude was accused of punking out against the Pistons physical play.
  • Refused to get in the game when the game winning shot wasnt drawn for him to take the shot
  • Wined his way out of Houston because of the system

What about Michael Jordan?
  • Dude was supposedly quoted as saying :they are not teammates. Just supporting cast' talking about teammates
  • Reportedly refusing to play on the dream team if Isiah Thomas was on the team (i lost mad respect for him when that story broke)
  • Punched a teammate

Sir Charles Barkley
  • idnt homie call his GM (sixers)a clown in a press conference?
  • Forced his was out of Phoenix when he saw the ship sinking.

Hakeem was also accused of faking the severity of his hamstring injury. I remember that vividly as a kid. He hated playing for the Rockets and wanted to win badly. I don't think any player in the modern era played harder than him on both ends of the floor. His supporting cast was the worst in the league for years after the decline and eventual trade of Ralph Sampson. 80% of Hakeem's pride was wasted by that team. He was as much of a beast in 88-93 as he was in the championship years. The thing is that, it was a lot harder to get traded and get out of contract if teams wanted you. If the CBA was like it is today, he would have left. Basically he would have been Dwight status.

MJ would have had Lebron level hate and people would have cheered against him and rather than with him today

Barkley was pretty reckless when he played anyway in terms of his public comments.

Dream, Mike, and Pippen wouldn't really be percieved that differently as long as they won rings. Look at some of the shyt Kobe and Shaq did and said in the social media era and they are still put on pedestals. Lebron was the devil incarnate 3 years ago and now he's better than Mike. If the Lakers had won the title last year nobody would have shyt to say about Dwight.
