The issue is and always was Vince. He would see Tanahashi as TOO Japanese.

One thing I kinda wish WWE would do(they never will) is book the Japanese stars they poach as really tough people to beat simply because they're Japanese and they wrestle a harder style across the pond. Would make them more menacing and make the fed have to book some of their American guys to look stronger.

Maybe it's just me with a shytty armchair booking idea too tho.

They kinda did this with Shinsuke in NXT. They always put over how dangerous his strikes were and he retained his "King Of Strong Style" name.

Then he moved to main, became the artist, and now he's basically "look how weird this guy is."

So yeah. As mentioned above, Vince is the problem.
