Have him beg for one last run to steph and Shane for like a month getting sympathy from the fans. All he wants is a match at wrestlemania.
Finally he appeals to his old friend Foley and he says if funk finishes in the final four in the royal rumble, he gets a match at mania. And if he wins he gets a title shot.
Stephanie (who wants no parts of Foley at mania) says that he has to start at ONE on the go home raw before mania.
He comes in at 1, and fellow ecw alum rvd is #2. This makes funk feel safe, its his old buddy rvd...RVD says "throw me a chair" to the crowd but its REALLY FONZ...And rvd decks funk with a chair and he falls out the bottom of the ring. Hes seemingly out of the match KO'd.
The match continues and funk comes back to the ring with his head wrapped. He fights and makes it to the final five. #29 is Braun strowman, (who is Stephanie's weapon of choice for the buildup) and he is scared shytless of braun....Braun is beating the shyt out of him, but thankfully #30 is john cena. Cena eliminates Braun, and some random heel eliminates funk. He made the final four, and he's going to mania.
At mania its funk and Cena vs Stroman and rvd. Rvds history with funk and heat with cena adds to the match. Strowman is monster of the week.
Funk gets the pin on strowman after an AA
(Btw cena /strowman / rvd are incredibly replaceable in this story with other baby faces and heels)

I'd just have him come back as a mentor/manager for Dean Ambrose...they already started that when he gave him the chainsaw..you could go a lot of ways with this... he could be a heel manager and go full heel with both of them or have Dean whoop his ass and have a match between the two with funk as the face....both work
