Etc... observations about people praying or not over their food? Do you do it in public? :whoo:

Whats funny is today I went to lunch alone.....and saw a preacher that I know nearby sitting with some folks facing me.........admittedly I'm not consistent with it, unless I'm around people :lupe: ........ but normally only people I'm familiar with, no strangers ... :lupe: ... So today I did, only b/se the preacher was in my line of sight :laff: ........................ :snoop: scust at me doing b/se he was sitting there..

Real talk.... its should be the status quo..... you are blessing for sustenance/calories that other people around the world may not have. You are blessing for the integrity of the food that it won't have your stomach doing the stanky leg. You are blessing just to have taste buds and your brain collaborating so that you can distinguish various foods and enjoy them.

Food at its best is medicine. Its a blessing :blessed: :ohlawd: :lawd: .................. but when you're hungry and just want to :eat: and combine maybe social aversion (some people)... then you just ignore these facts.

Not on any zealotry steeze, but I just observed my actions today and was like :ohhh:

If she prays over her food I instantly feel like theres a future cause for a rift.

I know ya'll don't believe me when I say this but...

Black women who find out you're not religious INSTANTLY change their perspective on you. INSTANTLY.

I've had women straight up say some shyt like: "You're cool and I'd like to get to know you...but I've never met an atheist before and its kinda weird"

As it to say that the sheer fact of what I do on Sundays makes me less of a person.

Religion is seriously fukked up.

I think stats say that black woman are by far the most religious demographic in the US.

Honestly, its the one question I actually dread because I know how its going to usually end up rubbing them the wrong way.

I've had black female friends who i've known for YEARS who one time about a year ago found out I was an atheist when we were all out one night after a friend mentioned it. INSTANTLY it was like the record stopped. shyt had me just super surprised.

she can pray if she wants, im gonna eat when the waitress puts the plate down :lolbron:
I usually wait for her to take the first step.

If she starts to pray. I just wait for her to finish then go on like nothing happened.

I know they're watching me to see if I do that shyt too.

but lets be real...praying over food is SO fukking stupid. I don't pray over a bottle of water, a bag of chips, or candy but some how eating something gathered on a plate with silverware means I have to initiate a ritual to do what I've been doing all day up to this evening.

Not to mention the fact its an acknowledgement to the creator of the universe that you're thankful he didn't decide to fukk you over like the other millions who are going on another night without food.

:pachaha:
Happened to me last weekend, was talking to a girl for like 2 hours and she asks what church I go to (She wasn't wrong to assume, most of the people at the party was Christian)

Usually at this point I bend the truth or change the subject but once in a while you feel like testing the water, so I fessed up: "I'm an atheist"

She looks at me like I just insulted her mother and says, "What, like completely?" :mjlol:

I mean what was she hoping I'd say? "Nah just like 40-45%" :heh:

Can get annoying at times though. I only really know one black girl my age that's an atheist and she figures black men aren't really choosy about that shyt so Atheist black girls tend to do better in that regard.

I've met like MAYBE 2 actually non-religious black women IN MY LIFE.

I'm talking everyone from doctors and lawyers to teachers and scientists are ALL religious. shyt bugs the fukk out off me when dealing with them.

And its not even that it comes up all the time...its just one of those things that when it DOES come up, you have to get them to understand your whole approach.

Yeah this has been what I've encountered for the most part, it can get frustrating because its completely irrelevant until it comes up at which point it overshadows everything.

A friend of mine joined a society for black atheists that meets every so often and tells me that there are often more women in attendance than men. That kinda environment feels too forced and inorganic to me but maybe one of these days he'll wear me down.

In my experience they'll never really understand your approach, In fact for many its maybe impossible to understand. For them to truly accept it would require a rejection of what they already believe to be true and I doubt you get that deep in small talk. It can be fun to play around
