Lol I think it depends. I know Hyattsville has its moments of ratchetry and hood shyt but it’s nothing too crazy like say Kentland or Palmer Park or Langley Park.

Nah it's two different spots owned by the same people. X4B closed too, unless they opened it back up. Haven't heard any ads on the radio in a minute.

My mom’s been down there before a few years ago, she said it reminded her of the DMV, traffic was almost as bad, it was a LOT of Black people, and MARTA reminded her of Metro.

I’ve been to Miami but not since 2006 so I’m long overdue for a return trip especially now as an adult lmao.

Yeah there’s quite a few places down in the A I really wanna check out and explore.

You should. RVA is just as Black (slightly Blacker I think) as DC and both cities are kinda similar. Richmond is basically DC’s more blue collar, quirky lil sibling. A lot of us DMV natives got cousins down there and vice-versa.

I have fam that live in Bethesda. They say PG is too "new".
Never been able to make it to that side of DC. Typically when I visit outside of the district, it's in the northwest.
Ironically, I'm not impressed with Bethesda myself. Even Potomac. DMV people always rave about their burbs being topnotch. They leave much to be desired, honestly.
I've noticed in the south that wealthy communities are not uniformly wealthy. That there could be pockets of cheaper areas within the same communities or be next to less well-to-do communities. Why is that?
That's a bit different from where I'm from which tends to have large conglomerates of uniformly wealthy towns all around each other. Kind of like Fairfield County, Ct. or Westchester County, NY.

How do businesses fair in these communities?
What type or caliber of businesses are in these communities?
Are there seedy communities in PG?
Does PG get an influx of poorer residents relocating from within the district? And if so, how has this affected the communities?
How did the 08/09 recession affect PG County?

Yes and no at the sametime, but here are some facts:

You got to be specific when you say Hyattsville. Places close to the DC line, like West Hyattsvile, especially Chillum, use to be no-go zones. Also drug infested was that southern part of Hyattsville, across that bridge where Route 1 and Rhode Island Ave run parallel, and where a lot of Blacks lived, which was across the tracks from that PG County Police Station, the police station that had those projects behind it. It got even worst when they flooded every Black neighborhood with drugs in the mid 80's. At one point in this area across from the police station, you needed a police escort to get on the main block, and a police escort to get off it. And as a result, all those youngins in that area got caught up in the system. North Brentwood, their next door cousins, which was always the worst hood between the two, got it even worst when they brought those drugs and weapons in. Btw, North Brentwood was the first majority Black municipality in Maryland, arguably the U.S. Not exactly the largest town, but the oldest hood of all PG County. That town was actually started by some free slaves after the Civil War. A lot of kin folks still live there. But now you have a few Hispanics living there believe it or not. And the area next door, which is that formerly drug infested left out part of southern Hyattsville I was just talking about, across from the police station, an area which a lot of them were kin to the North Brentwood crew, got mostly Mexicans living there now.

But Hyattsvilles arts district further north on RT 1 by the old Lustines Chevrelot Car Dealership, and on up towards Riverdale, all the way up to the University of Maryland in College Park, has all been revitalized. You don't see no Black people in this area, because it's too expensive. Plus they always kept this part of Hyattsville mostly White anyway, the reason why Hyattsville never had that overall hood reputation. But historically, Hyattsville use to be the major hub of PG County. So it always kind of had an urban infrastructure and urban mentality before most of the county, although it was old as h***, and full of White trash back then, except parts connected to the DC line, like Chillum. Anyway, they done rebuilt the arts district on Rt 1, and got it looking like Georgetown. They also rebuilt the area by PG Plaza, that got ratchet at one time, to the point they started calling it the wild, wild west. Now they got that part looking like something out of the Jetsons, But renovation had slowed down there for a moment. I guess the money went to Hyattsvilles arts district on Rt 1. Anyway, mostly University of Maryland college students live by PG Plaza now. I think they're renovating the Chiilum part too. You may as well say they're gentrifying it. You can see White girls jogging and walking their dogs at 2:00am on the DC line now. I don't know if those White girls are doing that on Riggs Rd, Sargent Rd, or Queens Chapel Rd, but I wouldn't be surprised. Anyway, I moved from the DMV 12 years ago. So I'm hearing this from an old buddy from Brownsville, NY, who use to stay off the intersection of Chillum Rd and Sargent Rd, in Hyattsville. But he wouldn't know jack about the art district by the old Lustines Chevrolet on Rt 1, or anything else they renovated in that area going toward Riverdale, and College Park, other than it's always been mostly White or poor White trash in that part until they renovated.

Speaking of College Park. MD, there's an old Black community within walking distance just north of the University of Maryland on Rt 1 named Lakeland that's been all Black since 1903. They built some housing projects there in the 80's. A lot of those Blacks are related to the Blacks in North Brentwood, and the Blacks in that small part of southern Hyattsville across from the police station, that use to be drug infested. Anyway, this whole entire strip is also physically connected by these rail road tracks that run from Anacostia in SE, all the way to the state of Maine. They were once called the B&O Railroad, then the Chesapeake Railroad. I don't know what they're called now.

Anyway, that's a little history of Hyattsville, since most people don't know what to think when you mention it today, especially out of towners, other then it's racially mixed with Blacks, foreigners, and Whites. Now it's back down to around 33 percent Black, while it's 35 percent Hispanic (which is a growing population), and 23 percent White. I still remember when outsiders use to visit North Brentwood, and they would set them up , and rob them. That's one of the things that make those towns with a lot of kin folks so dangerous. Then they spend the other time fighting each other. Anyway, you'll also notice that Kentland and Palmer Park in Landover always carried a Hyattsville address as well, especially if you ever lived in that area of Landover. On that note, I think the whole western, central, and northern PG County use to be Hyattsville at one time.

I know this was a history lesson, but this western part of PG county, speaking of Bladensburg, Hyattsville, and Riverdale, have a lot of history to it. And a lot of the Civil War was fought there. That's another whole world though. But you would never know many people died there during the war. That's why they got the Peace Cross there right off of Bladensburg Rd, in Bladensburg, right where the old Crossroad Night Club use to be. That's where the club got it's name. I never been in that club, even before it went down hill.
