I was watching SummerSlam 01 (great show by the way), and it makes me remember how much I wanted "The Book" to win that match vs a part-time Rock who hadnt been in WWE for 4-5 months.

At that time, Booker was in his prime & was the (WCW) World champion, the belt was still credible, and he was the first black World champ in either company since Ron Simmons a decade earlier. (And no, I don't believe the average fan saw the Rock as a black champ, but that's another thread) It was just a really cool thing at that time to see a black dude w/ the World title belt on RAW/SD.

I would've liked Booker to have gotten a legit title reign in WWF while at his peak.

Dont get me wrong, the King Booker stuff was good, but to me he wasn't as good in the ring at that time.

Vince wasn't letting no nikkas go over his cash cows back then. Book got a raw deal when he first appeared in the E they made him look like a clown before they gave him a serious push.

yeah, I totally understand it was "The Rock", and it was foolish to even think Booker would win. But I just would've liked to have seen it. :sadcam:

That said, I think Vince was dead-set on burying ANYBODY successful from WCW at that time, and it didn't matter if they were black or white.

Didn't Booker T hurt Austin when he made his debut at the KOTR?

plus, he had that terrible match with Bagwell on Raw a month before this event

I can imagine why Vince wasn't high on Booker and why they made The Rock go over in a burying manner. Book hit the scissors kick and The Rock just got back up and hit the Rock Bottom

:mjlol: Buff was asscrumbs he fukked everything up I wish Book didn't get caught up in that shyt Vince probably had the mindset that these WCW nikkas were garbage and didn't believe in any of them. He was pretty shaky on Y2J in his early years too I believe he thought them WCW nikkas didn't know what the fukk they was doing.

That was the biggest program of Booker 's career..he was winning titles from chumps and saddled with GI Bro goofball gimmicks in WCW...he was lucky he was in the position in the first place considering how over RVD was. A true top tier talent can make the best of any situation.

Booker didn't go over Taker or Austin either...Sting was right to stay away.

Chris Jericho talked about this on his book and said Vince paired him with Xpac because "he knows how to work"

Xpac was laying out Jericho's matches :ohhh:

Haha yeah I mentioned this in the X-Pac thread when he was getting shyt on for some reason. I had no idea what they was thinking having Book vs Buff the crowd didn't even give them cats a chance they buried the match from the start.

No matter the outcome, it was the one and only time two black wrestlers (not getting into specifics about Rock) main evented a PPV (a big 4 at that).

I remember when the IWC was hyping Booker T defending the title against Lashley a few years ago, but it was changed at the last minute into a Fatal 4 Way. :mjpls:
