album reminds me of compton. most of us wanted it to work. and it does, in spots. but dre has been trying to find a new sound for a MINUTE. if we're being real. i honestly think that's the problem. he changed hip hop. three, four, five... six times over? and he's trying to change it again. so far, none of that shyt is hitting in a way that will match the impact a "produced by dr. dre" record used to create.
it's fine. dre is hip hop's goat producer, regardless. i will ALWAYS check for "dr. dre on the boards". but if he's gonna keep taking swings, he needs to spend more time in the batting cage. find a better balance between what he wants to hear, and a sound that works for 2025. and i say that because every great has had to make that compromise. nas with hitboy. kanye from "life of pablo" on... rakim post-eric b. shyt, madlib has made a career out of saving nikkas from themselves.
or... just be content in being the goat. which wouldnt be the most awful compromise in the world.
