Jay was rapping like that way before Fu-Schnicks, but you'd be hard pressed to say Reasonable Doubt didn't come immediately from Illmatic.

1994, Illmatic drops, Jay-Z buys out of his own record contract, starts his own record company, RD comes out in 1996 (with the Dred Presidents sample), all street maybe 2 bars of Fu-Schnick raps.

I think the only reason a guy would risk buying out of his own contract is if he had a masterplan, a masterplan can only work in the music biz if you find a way to have career longevity, Jay's way to stay relevant is to probably just to take whatever's hot.
