I'VE NEVER BEEN TAUGHT THIS SHYT, SMMFH.

Black CowBoys (and CowGirls) are real and they're still around to this day.

    CowBoys in Compton

    CowBoys in Oakland

    A family of CowGirls

There are Black CowBoys (and CowGirls) everywhere, but I'm from California which is why I posted them.

    Yup.

25% of Cowboys were Black and a lot of them former slaves. The way Hollywood portrayed cowboys was inaccurate. Most cowboys were laborers not some gun toting vigilante riding into town. Also, cowboy is a racial slur that White ranchers called Black workers.White workers were called cow hands.

The rodeo/cattle industry were one of the few industries that Black slaves and workers were treated with the same level of respect as their White counterpart.

The 1800s to me, was the most fascinating time period for Black people in the USA.

I wish they were closer to where I am. I would join, but I'm nowhere near Compton or Oakland.

Breh, if you wanna go be a cowboy, you can go do it. We need to keep these traditions alive and set the historic record straight.

yeah I fukking cringe at history whitewashing the lone ranger, because the dude actually existed and he was black but like the olden days that wouldn't have flown in the 40's-50's when they made a show about him... I also think it's bullshyt that historians won't clarify it for the entire world that he actually existed and was a black man the whole time... :stopitslime:

I’ve been tryna get down and live in Houston for the longest. Eventually, that’s where I wanna be. In 10-15 years, y’all gone catch me out there 10 gallon hat, with that Texas belt buckle accross my waist :russ:

I loved hearing about black cowboys and girls, cause I always fantasized that as a simple lifestyle. Them brehs and brehettes was out roaming the land, with little care in the world, not having to be around too many whites or ppl in general

Yeah, man I love my city and state even with their flaws. There's definitely a lot in terms of AA culture, similar to NC. I wish more AA people here appreciated it.

And yup that rural TX trailriding culture runs deep in the big city of Houston and intersects heavily with the rural louisiana creole rooted culture as you can probably tell by the sound of the zydeco music in those vids. The two basically go hand in hand here.
Black cowboys: Creole trail rides showcase unique culture

Oh yeah, there were definitely all black cowboy crews in East Texas, one of which founded the "settlement" freedmen town in Texas city I posted about in the other thread.

Prairie view TX(another freedmen town I posted about) has the oldest officially recognized black trailride association in the country.

I grew up with cattle, we still have about 40-50 cows

Good number of black ppl in this, but it's looked down upon by other black folks because we turned our backs on agriculture to run to the city.

But if you consider who was feeding the animals, tilling the field etc during slavery it was us....and once slavery was over we still had that knowledge.

In Compton the Richland farms area has always been a rural agriculture area with crops and horseback-riding .
    We call that area Farmdog.

I don't have any homies that ride out here. But I have family in Louisiana in Shreveport, Natchitoches and Smith County Texas that participates in trail-rides.

    :ohhh:

Wait. So, that's where FDCC gets it's name. I thought that name sounded familiar. WTF!

    :russ:

Anyway, nikkas on here and other sites use to clown Houston cuz we got cats, and I mean YOUNG cats, riding horses and raising chickens and guinea fowls in our most notorious hoods. shyt, Acres Homes aka the 44 was originally founded for that specific purpose.
    Acres Homes, Houston - Wikipedia

Do black people in Compton still do that or is it just the mexicans(I know they're known for it).

There's a non profit program that teaches young black children how to ride.I'm not that familiar with it but, I know they are active.I seen them in a few parades over the years.
