I fear that Hip Hop as a genre will be gone in the next 10 years.

Hip hop is dying guys. That is why the industry is making all these artists put out music this year like Nas, Kanye, Jay Z, J.Cole, Mac Miller, Jay Rock, and lil Wayne is dropping a tape. The industry is trying so hard to not let this genre die. But it will eventually.

The future of music is going to be Dance music like House, Trance, and dubstep. In 10 years hip Hop won't be popular, your kids will most likely be bumping dance music like the music you hear in raves and they will think hip hop music is a thing of the past. You can already see elements of dance music in hip hop already. The trap sound has been getting old and repetative and eventually dance music will heavily influence hip hop to the point where the sound of hip hop will completely change. You can see also in the views on YouTube and see that this genre is dying. Dance musics average views are ~100 million and a select hip hop songs struggle to hit the 60 million mark.

Mark my words guys in the future you will see im right.

Its going to be more organic and independent, only rappers who are pop or ignorant are gonna get signed and sell.

As long as the Hip-Hop music I have still sounds good as it should be in the future years honestly it won't be so bad. I'd be more worried about the style trends if anything lol.

Brostep don't sell albums. Hiphop is by far the most popular sub genre for young people.

Ive had this thought before but its been around so long I dont think it can disappear at this point. I don't think the other genres that faded away were around as long as hip hop. Hip Hop is a life style as well not just a type of music.

and you say "you can see elements of dance music in hip hop already," but did hip hop not start as dance music to begin with?

Breh, you're already making shytty threads at a Wacky D pace.

rappers have mixtape songs, with 70 Million + views.... hip hop aint going nowhere, it's just that you're realizing that other music exists outside of hip hop...and it's popular.

 @ you acting like hip hop is Neo Soul.

I have no idea why nikkas always think "Oh this shyt is going nowhere, it's here to stay, hip-hop is forever"... when nothing lasts forever. Nothing.

Jazz faded out. Blues faded out. Funk/disco faded out. Contemporary R&B is on its way out. Just because some underground artists still make the music doesn't mean it is still relevant. Orchestras still exist, but who goes and buys classical/opera music? Same with jazz.

Hip-hop is far from dead right now, but once the major labels no longer see a need for it, it will be on its way out. Rock is making a comeback. It's just combining with electronic as is other genres. Country is actually the most consistently selling artform right now. Hip-hop is there, but just because hundreds of rappers drop mixtapes doesn't mean that it's surging again. Just means too many folks rap.

Jazz didn't die as a Genre, Rock didn't die either...hip hop is not gonna die either.

Jazz is almost 100 years old, Rock and Roll is 70+ years old.

We're almost 4 generations deep of hip hop... and it's embedded into American culture to a point where you can find it everywhere....and spread across the globe.

Grandmaster Flash is almost a senior citizen, and most of the Rappers from the 80's have had kids, and some of them have had kids.

hip hop isn't going anywhere, it's just gonna grow exponentially to the point it's a cultural staple in the rest of the world like it is here.
