I found a turtle in the middle of the road, how do I take care of him

my parents have like 6 turtles.
they are hibernating at the moment.
we bought a big hay stack and they just crawled into it and have not come out yet (it is winter over here).
anyway, to get back to the point,...
basically feed them lettuce or cabbage and put water in a container for it.
now i don't know whether there is a difference between southern african turtles and american turtles (i'm assuming that you're in america)??
btw, your turtle looks small, ours are big as fukk for turtles.
