I think Serch would disagree
Son Serch put him on but didnt teach him the business and this is something Serch himself would tell u. Dame was a different type of nikka for Jay. He CAME IN with a brand in mind. Came in trying to have their own imprint. Nas got none of that. Illmatic’s release was botched and mismanaged and with someone like Dame in his corner that nikka wouldve atleast saw a Gold plaque out the gate. They let that nikka tape get bootlegged to the point most people had it by the time it released. They actually HAD to release it when they did cause of it. It was supposed to have more tracks.

Hes slighting Jays entrepreneur skills like Hov needed or relied on Dame like that. I had no Damon Dash, just maniacs I wish I had a Damon dash I woulda been straighter = you had a businessman as your right hand and I had nikkas like jungle and horse, if I had a dame I would been even bigger than I am but I still made it. Maybe Im reading too much into but :francis: also not a huge diss or nothing but its a love tap, lil nudge if you will

And if Pac and Big was alive those bars woulda been for them 2

They been doing this shyt for years at this point

Edit: Nas also lying his ass off like Steve Stoute hasnt been in his corner for 20+ years but ok

I really wonder if some of you ever watch the news or read a newspaper. Y'all be saying some of the dumbest shyt...lol

tf do i need media when i can listen to the man himself. i really wonder if some of you ever listen to music or just skim through it just to chat shyt on forums:skip:

Listen, could you imagine writing your deposition?
Divorce lawyer telling you how this thing gonna be ending?
“With you paying out the ass, and I’m talking half
Not some but half, no serious, half"

-Nas, bye baby

Nas has had tons of people championing him his whole career lol

The nikka don’t form long-standing relationship music wise.

I agree with 305 do kind of downplay Hov success. shyt is like when Tmac saying what he would do if he had Shaq like Kobe. We see how it turned out for Kobe after Shaq. Just like we see Hov without Dame.

Nas is the GOAT but I don't think his aloof personality would've meshed with a guy like Dame Dash. he was the type to disappear for days and not tell anybody of his whereabouts, that kind of shyt would've driven a nonstop hustle guy like Dame Dash crazy

You just reminded me of that lil jab Jay took on the song with Cole. I had the illmatic- on bootleg :youngsabo:

They will always have that lil :sas1:
Between them, snide compliments. Didnt large professor basically say they would be besties if it wasnt for circumstances? Im not disagreeing with your points at all tho hes obviously saying he cut from a rare breed of cloth but hov caught the stray

Of course u see it this way. He is NOT sending shots at Jay. U nikkas is weirdos. And Nas did NOT have someone backing him like that when Illmatic dropped. Illmatic had a fumbled release. And he had to wait damn near 2 years for someone to get behind him that knew wtf they was doing with him. Dame or someone like Dame wouldnt have even let that botched roll out happen if he was in Nas’ corner when Illmatic released. nikka wouldve been up in the offices barking at everyone.

nikka of Hov & Nas was legit beefing still. That bar wouldn’t even be up to interpretation. It would be seen as a shot directly. Imagine that line spat right after the break up of the roc and before that peace concert.

It ain’t no serious shyt breh. It’s a slight no matter how u slice it. Nas don’t even know what Dame did for Jay back then

Ho can you say Dame would have gotten Illmatic platinum out the gate when he couldn't even get RD platinum out the gate?

I agree Nas needed better businessmen in his ear and somebody to teach him about building a movement but would Nas have listened at the time? He was missing shows and losing out on deals even when Steve Stoute was in his corner. Nas is different. He's not a hustler, disciplined dude like Hov. He's anti social and aloof, and spent years disappearing on people. How do you make that work, outside of just having dope music like he did?

To me a better argument is that Nas needed a better team after Stoute left. That period kinda got ugly. He's got a great manager now and is straight, so it all worked out.

No shots taken or thrown...

Was Dame the loudmouth go getter who championed, and forced people to pay attention to his marquee artist named Jay-Z? Sure was, sure did.
Do every artist need a Dame in their corner to get through the door? In many cases, yes...

That was the point.
