Served a need in the northeast prison system against Latinos and expanded out of that.

EDIT Have no clue if the same dynamic existed in the Midwest jail / prison systems, this just speculation.

I’m aware of your first point

I just wonder why the gangs in place at the time wasn’t capable of holding shyt down

they weren't criminal organizations tho...
they were just loose clicks without structure and heirarchy

in NYC? not organized on a level like Chicago's already was

I’m sorry...what level of organization was present once Jeff Fort & Hoover we’re out of the picture?

Last I heard it was the blind leading the blind for as long as any can remember

the organization once existed but was broken up....
the chicago prison system still has these heirarchies intact

Why was LA gang culture able to influence NYC but not Chicago?

:hubie:

Because 2pacs death and his association with Bloods made it seem cool....and this also affected the whole country not just NYC. Thats the power of hip hops influence.....Thats why Bloods popped up all over the country after Pacs death. Bloods and Crips were already in NYC prior but they didnt really make noise till after Pacs death.

:hubie:

1. NYC being so big, it has more neighborhood crews than whole gang factions. When you get to the island or upstate it really was just people from the same boroughs holding each other down because you either knew of them in your borough streets or knew mutual people. The UBN was just provided an umbrella to interlink all those crews. That's why it comes from the only place where all 5 boroughs can link up, Jail.

2.Unlike other cities though, the NYPD gang taskforce actually does their job but you can't get stop something that started in the prison system by sending people to prison which is why they were able to get the most of the bigger original NYC gangs out of here.
