Yesterday's american heavyweights are today's forwards, DL & linebackers
The skill has left and gone elsewhere:francis:
I think this is one of the biggest fallacies I see spouted about the state of American boxing.

What does boxing skill have to do with football and basketball skills? They are not translatable whatsoever. Anthony Joshua and Wilder are probably the most athletic heavyweights in the division, yet Fury is clearly the best of the heavyweights based on pure skill.

Being an athlete in boxing can only take you so far. Ultimately it's about skill and the will to win. The 90s was the best era for heavyweight boxing imo and that was dominated by a British-Canadian for the most part.

The era when US heavyweights were dominant, there wasn't as much global participation in the sport.

But the two heavyweights that hold the belts right now are arguably as 'skilled' as any heavyweight from any era :jbhmm:

The entire division was full of talented and skilled guys. Fury and Usyk would be contenders but wouldn't be dominant standouts like today.

Uskyk maybe, but Fury is a freak of nurture. His Size + Skill would be trouble for anyone, but dudes tend to have nostalgia bias when it comes to the past.

Fury is 6'6''. Bowe was around the same size and was even more skilled. He is nothing we haven't seen before.

fury has skill plus movements. Ali was a heavyweight that comes to mind in that category (im not calling Fury equal to Ali, I’m more so talking about heavyweights that could move like a smaller man).

fury 300 lbs and can move, thats still insane breh lol. Dude came in fatter and still didnt gas

Jared Anderson is extremely skilled. He does things like a welterweight.

Fury is also easily one of the most skilled of all time.
