I did not have a car for college. Later on, I bought a hooptie for $500. I sold it for $500 and that was after messing up the manual tranny a bit too.
The struggle game was real. Walking to the mall and back. Taking the Greyhound bus home.
I had no game in college though so a car wouldn't have made a difference anyway.
