I need basic IT units to move up at my job. What's the most cost efficient way to earn them?

I work an entry level state job right now and I've been speaking with out IT department.

The entry level position in IT there requires 18 semester units. I don't need a degree or any certs although that may be something I'd like to explore later on.

Are there some online courses that you guys suggest I take to get these units?

Since most schools are online now, enrolling at a local community college would be the most cost efficient way to obtain them I think.
