So here’s my issue. I’m currently employed in the O&G industry, I make a good living, for the sake of reference let’s go with 145 a yr. However my job keeps me away from home at least half the year. It’s a rotational schedule. It’s been that way for ten years and frankly I’m tired of the schedule and want to be at home everyday. There jobs in my industry are few and far between where I live. It’s either A move to where I work
or B make career change.( IT related, leaning toward cloud computing.
A would seem like a no brainer, but my family situation makes it a much more difficult situation
B is on the table, however I’m fully aware I would be taking a huge pay cut. Starting from the bottom in a new career.
So here are the moves I’ve made so far
Enrolled in a associate degree program in cloud computing ( online based)starting this summer.
Began a intro level cyber security course on FedVTE, it’s a DHS affiliate that offers free training to government contractors, veterans and service members
I’ve also started to dip my toe into coding, all Python related.
Is this the right IT field to get into?
What classes or certs should I be looking to add once I get my first certification?
Is it realistic to think I can gain experience by working remotely?
