Well, school budgets are funded by property taxes. At least I think in most areas.
So if you live in a poor district and your schools are poorly funded, someone’s going to have to come out of pocket.
In some situations, maybe there’s mismanagement of revenue. But that’s something to fight about at local government meetings.
I think the people who balk at contributing anything toward school supplies are probably the people who aren’t actively engaged in their child’s education. Probably most people just send their kids to school and don’t really give a shyt what they learn or if they have the tools necessary to do their best.
Most parents care about education in terms of broad empty advice like “do your homework” and “get good grades” without actually reviewing and helping with any of it.
Hey look. If you’re struggling, people understand. I don’t think anyone is suggesting you buy 30 kids a stack of notebooks. But anything helps. I know a handful of teachers and they come out of pocket to try and teach and raise your kids the best way they can.
Also, vent this frustration about school supplies when you vote. Well, IF you vote…
