It was CMR renewing thier contractual obligations to the UNIVERSAL/REPUBLIC/MOTOWN conglomerate

And the reason it was such a phat check..is because UNIVERSAL was involved in a bidding war with SONY over the CMR brand

Along with CMR recouping all thier overhead fees involved with distributors
