Not really, a lot of animals would've died in the wild due to handicaps or at the hands of illegal hunting.

i always thought one of the saddest things to see in the world is a caged bird.

but most of these zoos nowadays are huge and animals have alot of freedom and space to roam. its not like back in the day where they had them in a cage that looked no bigger than a jailcell. birds are sad cause they can fly and need a lot more space but they dont get much.

Yeah not very nice. However like Thoughts said, sometimes they need a sanctuary and then it costs money to look after them therefore it makes sense to make money for the upkeep.

Not always the case though, I watched a documentary, never thought of dolphins much but apparently they are imported from those pretty islands. A lot of them die through the process from being captured to being held in small, unsuitable and sometimes dirty enclosures, then the transportation and finally them not being able to adapt to their new environment.

Something like that is just not necessary. Traumatising an animal and killing many more simply because we want to laugh at their tricks. Then people come out with "I love dolphins". Then stop treating them like that!:snoop:

Zoos aren't as bad as the circus though

So true!

If you think the zoo humiliates animals, the circus is worse because its forced labor and the animals perform unnatural acts. Plus, you see them getting whipped right in front of you! I haven't been to circus since I was a child. The last time I went to the zoo was Disney's Animal Kingdom. At least they have that setup as though the animals are in their original habit and they're free to roam but they still look sad as hell.
