I remember a time when nobody bought up rings when discussing a NBA players ranking all time

Do rings affect where you rank a player all time?

There was a time when no one had a problem listening K. Malone or Stockton is their top 3 of their position all time. Or Barkley. No one even cared that they “never won”. We had actual basketball discussions and looked at a players skill set as well as overall body of worc

It wasn’t until a certain players started threatening another certain players ranking that NBA discourse was diminished simply to “he has more championship “ arguments …

False. Karl Malone is still an all-time great PF. He just isn’t in any all-time great player overall lists because he never won jack. Same with Stockton, Barkley, etc.

When talking GOAT then look to the rings… (Modern)

MJ 6 rings
Kareem 6 rings
Magic 5 rings
Kobe 5 rings
Duncan 5 rings
Shaq 4 rings
Curry 4 rings
LeBron 4 rings
Bird 3 rings
Wade 3 rings
Isiah 2 rings
Hakeem 2 rings

And so on and so on…

What’s false?
Did Ring talk not increase and the main deciding factor when ranking NBA players since Lebron started threatening to take the crown . Yes or no?

Word. Harden is the GOAT I don't give a FUUUCK what anyone says :hubie:

Play smarter, not harder. This way he gets to be the GOAT and enjoy a longer off-season. Lightyears...

People always cared about rings, it's just that online discussions amplify it more since People are more aggressive online

Right now in real life you fan still praise Westbrook without pushback

I think it does.

Its one thing to be considered the goat at your position but in the overall goat conversation at your sport its much harder if you don't at least have 1 ring or title.

If Bird, MJ, Magic, Lebron, KAJ,Kobe etc never won a ring but put up the stats that they did most people would disqualify them immediately from being the possible best to ever play.

In the 90s/early 2000s Wilt got way more love in the GOAT convos.
This.

Wilt reminds me of Shaq where he could be the most dominant anytime he wanted but they both lacked that stubborn drive to be the best. Kobe, Russell, Bird, MJ, Bron etc., all had that.

Russell won more rings and Kareem had the rings + longevity + good enough stats.

MJ vs Bron comparisons never made sense because Bron is more like Magic and always has been. MJ should be compared to Kobe, Wade, Steph, Kawhi etc.
