in '91, Master P sold his first album independently out the trunk of his car in Richmond,CA. he connected with Bay Area promoters & DJ's and went on a West Coast tour with Pac & Too $hort. he releases his second album in 1992, it sells 150K and then he moves back to New Orleans. in 1994, his third album sells 250K and his record label grossed more than $900,000. he then got a distribution deal that allowed him to receive a $ 375,000 advance check every album produced, 75 % wholesale price of every album sold, and ownership of the master recordings from his label including himself.

DJ Screw would go and press up 10,000-15,000 CDs and sell them at local Houston car shows alongside Lil' Flip and Flip claimed they would make so much money that they would have to count again to make sure it's the right amount.

Slim Thug left Swishahouse and began selling mixtapes at 17 and was a millionaire before he received a record label and released his debut album in '05.

when Cash Money was independent and was using local distribution(SouthWest Wholesale) Birdman had said they were making a million dollars a month, shipping 100,000 each album at $10 each. the label was getting big in '97, when Juvenile released his CM debut, B.G. released two albums, and the Hot Boy$ released their album which sold 300K. it helped the label build a name outside of New Orleans and local distributors had trouble keeping up with the demand. in '98 they signed a deal with Universal that was valued at $30 Million with a $3 million advance, they received 85 % royalties and 50 % of publishing and ownership.

E.S.G. sold his debut album in 1994, independently it sold 100K copies.

Chamillionaire and Paul Wall who were group had an album that sold 200K independently

in 1996, T.I. sold mixtapes out the trunk of a car with his homie Big Kuntry King. he got signed by a representative from Arista who also had his own label around '99. he dropped his debut album in 2001. the album didn't do well and was dropped from Arista. then he formed the label Grand Hustle with Jason Geter and released mixtapes with the help of DJ Drama. he resurfaced in the summer of '03 when he was featured on Bone Crusher song, ''Never Scared''. his mixtapes and his feature on Never Scared had labels coming to him, he later signed a joint venture deal with Atlantic Records.

legend has it, he slapped this stripper's booty after taking a pic
