I saw some people saying AJ Styles vs. John Cena had no story but I disagree! Here's how I saw it

That match COULD of been a classic if they didn't do their finishers 8 minutes into the match. They do them and then wrestle 10 more minutes. shyt was stupid and unnecessary. :martin:

Would of been better if they did this sequence at the end: styles clash, kick out, aa, kick out, maybe 2-3 moves before Cena hits the super aa, kick out. Shocked Cena, goes for regular aa, counter, styles clash, phenomenal forearm. AJ wins.

And that reversal sequence that started with the cena stf and ended with AJ going for a pin was :wow: awesome transitions :salute:

Another small complaint I have is Cena not selling the second SC after he sold the first one. I GET why he didn't sell it, but he could of held off a few seconds before getting up. Dude took the move and got up like a second later looking "stunned." :francis:

I saw what they were trying to do. Lesnar mauling Orton was supposed to be another example of how Brock is different, it's a formula they used with the first Cena match and most Brock matches since his return to the company. He's a beast escaped from his cage and is supposed to have an aura about him where "anything can happen"

It's blurring the lines between work/shoot and all that shyt. It was also in a way supposed to "protect" Orton. I know that's funny to say now but the announcers have said a couple times now "Orton never quit, Orton wasn't pinned" etc. Like how Austin passed out to the sharpshooter with Bret. It's that kind of protection.

But it just fell completely flat. For one, the aura around Brock isn't the same now. He's starting to become diminishing returns. You can't do the same thing with him over and over and keep the audience. They need to freshen this up.

Also, huge fukking mistake to end a long ass show on this note. It should have been in the middle of the card. You don't end on a Rusev/Reigns no contest and then follow that with an Orton/Lesnar referee stoppage. That shyt don't fly to close out a SummerSlam. :francis:

When lesnar came back and it was all smashmouth me workrate to aid hhh and cena.
The writing was on the wall that people would get bored with Brock.
Brock really was only great as a content based character when opposite angle as his foil.
With taker, it was always written up for taker to look as an equal to Brock.
When, general fan perception I feel waned and why it made it easy for McMahon to ruin the streak for lesnar as the powerhouse of the e.
Yet, it would have been better to actually have Wyatt take the streak off taker at mania.
If you were going to job the streak at all.
As Wyatt is a mysterious clandestine draw like taker was.
Similar to how they booked, built up and used Mick originally debuting as mankind.
Mankind had convincability in wwf cause he owned taker via booking.
Plus, it was one of the first convincing heels versus an incarnation of hogun or hogun in dark tights booking.
That lead to why mankind was a draw in the wwf/wwe.
If mankind was never booked accurately from the beginning versus taker.
Mick, would have flopped like most guys who came from the nwa/wcw arena as special style draws.
Plus, since the fed won't establish real workrate outside the smashmouth WWE style.
It makes it difficult to create a possible challenger to lesnar as well.
As they create no parallel of attack or effective technical attack for the roster.
by having it lead in a smashmouth me direction.
Which is only in place to protect the son-in-law.
Before hhh and hbk were exposed and shown to lack real pedigree psychology wise based around actual technical inring prowess by Benoit.
The WWE started to close the door on that style of work because it exposed the clique and most notably hhh.
as having no real workrate based on technical psychology outside the confines of the smashmouth style.
So, the workrate heavy smack down original brand direction was phased out in the brand merger.
When the workrate style should have been amalgamated to include technical aptitude displays and sequences during a work or program.
As the roster was made up and lead by its best worker and draws in that vein.
Yet was never changed to reflect it because the WWE was spreadsheet authenicating hhh's legacy as a draw.
using part time mania bookings as a discoveryzone with Brock.
To eventually lead to several main event paydays on a part time schedule at mania.
Plus, a slot in the main event via justification supplied by spreadsheet as well.
When the style should have changed from smashmouth to more technical based because the top draws of the promotion.
were smaller and that direction created higher compelling psychology and larger long term drawing prospects.
Including actual health rewards because the number of high spots and danger levels could be controlled.
By having more technical based works and then adding more smashmouth based works or high spots.
when it made sense via continuity and competitors in the work.
As long as the WWE remains a prisoner to being obligated full time by the prospect of the son-in-law,...they will continue to have hordes of injuries and remain out of touch content wise as well.
Which is why they continue to book in smashmouth style.
as it always leads a path back to the son in law.
When the promotion should distance itself from the guy who ruined the actual boom via their inept booking at mania2000.
When they Changed the scope of the promotion to be about hhh and being a heel champion leaving mania.
When mania only works when they stick to the face goes over globally formula precedent set from mr t/rocky.

Keep in mind also, that for the last three years, Cena has been saying, "If you want to be the top guy in the WWE, you have to go through me."

AJ was the first one to go through him.

Technically, Kevin Owens was, but we'll just forget about that...

Bryan did and took over but then got injured.

a couple of my favorite posters are on that wave :lolbron:

I'm just sayin I completely disagree. If someone thought after it was over that there was no story then I really gotta disagree with that take :yeshrug:

If they never made real rants about any of this shyt.
I would not listen to shyt they say or their narrative.

They put on a classic match at summerslam. Good storytelling, crowd was hyped, commentary was more enthusiastic.:ehh:

The match really showed just how good Aj Styles is. I mean the sellling and the execution of his moves was on point.:manny:

Everybody on the roster need to take note on his performance.:dame:

The story was clear and great. Cena doing AJ's kind of stuff to prove he was still the top guy, having no idea what to do when someone against him wouldn't give up even after his super finisher, then possibly retiring after AJ proved he really was better than John Cena decisively. It showed how you can do a spot spot spot type of match, but have it still be story based at it's core. It was great.
