Ultimately we are a people without a language. When you look at the Chinese and when they speak in Mandarin they can communicate and build without help from the white man, hence Chinatown.

When you only speak English and you're not white, you limit yourself and your opportunities. If you have kids in the future, do your best to pass down another language to them. Even if you don't know it well yourself, if they are young enough they can pick it up as long as you make sure you're saying things correctly. And it isn't hard to learn basic phrases these days with the power of the Internet as well as correct pronunciations via the Internet

I would encourage learning a language from Africa if you're black. I'm learning Amharic. Unfortunately that wasn't passed down to me but I'd like to pass it down to my kids and connect to my roots at the same time. Plus it's always great to be able to talk shyt about white people in an African tongue.

You say we shouldn't solely speak English...a white man's language, yet cite that you speak spanish and are learning french (both white man's languages).

It is important to speak another language, not necessarily for commonality's sake, but to broaden your horizons. Speaking another language simply creates possibilities be it in work prospects, discovering new cultures or simply creating new relationships. Also it's a step towards becoming a citizen of the world. English is basically the lingua franca of majority of the world, and is def and important language to know.

As for the AA community, their version of this is AAVE. It's not necessarily a language but it's a way black people in America can communicate with each other on an interpersonal level.

I already speak decent Spanish. Unfortunately, I cannot speak an Afro-centric language as of yet. I'm sure it wouldn't take me as long as it did to learn Spanish.

The first language I tried to learn was French. I was 9 years old at the time... French at any age is difficult to grasp, so I quickly changed my focus. If I was a Canadian, then I would have more incentive and purpose to learn it.

You should do the TEFOL then and get the certificate. I did that for a while, but its more for teaching English to people who don't know English aka Speakers of other languages, so it might be a bit harder to do that in Europe. It's fun doing it abroad though.

Amharic isn't that hard to learn imo you just gotta be persistent. The alphabet and script is different though. I'm working on Arabic at the same time.

French and Spanish are not the white mans language in this country. On a global scale, sure. On an American scale, they aren't. Most white Americans only speak English, dikkhead.
