They still make music though because the other aspects of crafting a project, from their standpoint, have to be fukking awesome.

Kanye plays around with insane production techniques with the best producers in the world. He can conceptualize the most far out musical idea and just make it happen.

Jay Z has unlimited funds... grabs the hottest beats, gets whoever he wants for hooks... etc

Also he can pull off ridiculous, next level business moves cause he's Jay Z.

So ya, Jay Z and Kanye are too busy with all that other shyt to be concerned with rapping.

So Kanye locks himself in a studio for months to release an album with limited promo & only 4-5 minutes of "physical promo" cause he doesn't enjoy it?
If anything he enjoys making music/being rich but not being a pop-star.

Unlimited funds has nothing to do with it, 50 cent has "unlimited funds" as well, Birdman too. He gets other people to pay for it, these rappers ain't putting up their own money, besides maybe Kanye.

Idk about Jay-z though, he does not seem to love it as much as Kanye. But it's a great source of revenue for him.
I believe that if he lost interest, he would quit rapping. He tried in 03 but still released 2 projects in 04 and came back in 06, so he obviously loves making music.

Of course Kanye enjoys making music but Im pretty sure rapping is an afterthought.. Rick Rubin confirmed that he laid down the vocals for Yeezus in a matter of weeks

He could've been singing like 808s, but he was rapping.
In fact some songs imo had some of his most focused bars ever, I'm talking about Black Skinheads and New Slaves.

There's nothing to indicate that Kanye is tired of rapping, he might be tired of the rap game though? He laid that the vocals and the production in a matter of weeks.
But let's not act like rapping was always #2 to Kanye, he came in on CD with lazy flows and lazy bars, as on Bound 2 but it sounded fresh cause it was something unique, funny and he put great emotions in his bars whether it was emotion of joy, sadness, anger etc..

I think for Kanye, that's absolutely the case...because he's a non-rapper (like puff, dre, baby, timbo etc.)...I have no doubt that he loves being an "artist" and a pop star...but this is not a guy that was just naturally gifted as a rapper nor just has the innate passion for doing it...he can't sing and isn't a talented "musician" in the traditional sense, so rapping was pretty much his only road to becoming an artist and a star...but we're like a decade and how many ever albums deep and he still doesn't really sound like a natural-born rapper to me, there's just an off-ness and awkward amatuerish quality when he raps just says to me "this guy isn't really a rapper-rapper....he's a dude that's rapping because he can"...like there's never been a point, any time in life where i heard a beat and thought "damn, I love to hear Kanye hop on this and just spit and spazz out"...to me he's a producer in the dre/puffy sense who's into music more than rap

Jay on the other is a rapper's rapper...I just think he's old and not as good as he used to be, which happens :manny:

Very true about Kanye, but I think the fact that his rapping is kind of amateurish doesn't necessarily hurt his music.

its kind of like how some of the great rock singers (such as Mick Jagger), dont have a good singing voice.. but as tremendously creative and charismatic artists, they make it work.
