Okay, so to give you my background, I was raised in a white town with three other Asian families and one black family. So in my class, I was the only Asian person.
While watching TV as a kid, I would watch the annual NAACP awards, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Without anyone telling me, I kind of figured that you have white people, then everyone else, was colored, black, brown (Hispanic), yellow (Asian) and red (Native American). I would watch the entire show waiting for an Asian person.
I think I was in 4th or 5th grade.
So no Asian person won an award. No biggie. I watched it again the next year. This time, I'm thinking, there has to be at least one Asian person, Chinese, Japanese, whatever.
That would be great.
But nope, but a Hispanic person was at least on the stage the next year. So, I'm thinking, all right...
... next year, there has got to be an Asian person.
Okay, I finally found out that I was not considered a colored person...

And some of you are like...
