I want to get into Jazz and understand it

Music Theory is really not difficult to learn. At the basic level, you already know more than 3/4 of musicians. It’s like learning a new language. 15 minutes a day and you will see how most songs are composed and understand why. Producer, MC, or musician it’s going to help a lot. You dont even have to get in the weeds with it

I love jazz music. I feel like you have to approach it the way you do classical music. Even more freestyle jazz is very technical. I come from a musical family but I definitely started appreciating jazz more watching Mo Better Blues as a teenager and more as I got into my 20s and 30s. It's really amazing.

charles mingus got me into jazz. first jazz record i bought was the clown. took me years to figure out the white dude narrating the last track is the same guy from a christmas story. everybody can prolly hear that intro sax in their head, but a love supreme by coltrane is beloved for a reason. eventually i got into weirder stuff like eric dolphy and ornette coleman, ymmv. good for everyone making the journey. jazz is a wonderful genre

if you dont enjoy jazz music thats fine but dont be so willfully ignorant. i dont like bluegrass or mongolian throat singing, but that doesnt mean it sucks either
