What I'm saying is how/why would a person stop taking their medication?

You have to at least be accountable for taking your daily or weekly pills.
U not wrong my bruh, and i am a staunch believer in accountability. So what im bout to say isnt me making excuses, just basically answering ur question. There are a number of reasons WHY we might fukk around and come off them meds. And we ultimately are accountable despite them all, but there are levels to it.

For starters, its a very imperfect science to being properly medicated to begin with. First u need to find the right combination and dosage to begin with. And not only is every person different when it comes to this, but eventually more often than not ur brain and body chemistry will stop responding like it originally did, and those meds will need to be adjusted. The more meds u on, naturally, the trickier this can be. And by the very nature of the beast our decision making can easily start to deteriorate. And bad decisions will ensue, i.e. "fukk these meds"(especially when we dealing with fukked up side effects on top of not feeling like we getting the bang for our buck).

Then even if everything is working great and that brain is firing on all cylinders, there is still always the uninvited and unannounced specter of life just lifing. Maybe the bus breaks down, or if u functional/fortunate enough to drive the car decides to die on u.

Fukk man, sometimes the doctor fukks up the script, or a receptionist fukks up and forgets to phone ya shyt in. im not saying missing one dose is necessarily gone throw u out of wack,(it can, but not usually). But there are countless ways the devil can just shyt all over ur plans and now our already impaired judgment is really starting to show its ass. And most doctors can be real dikkheads, especially to a certain segment if the population in my experience. So getting a new appointment can take anywhere from DAYS to a whole monthly cycle. And woe muhfukkin betide u if that man has a vacation coming up. :francis: And these fukkers take a vacation damn near every other month sometimes, and usually the start at like 2 weeks on the SHORT end. I once had a creh write me 3 months worth in june and book my next shyt for september. If God forbid i had got in a fender bender that day i would have been royally FUKKED for the summer. Your only real recourse in that situation is preemptively booking a vacation of ur own. The kind of "vacation" where the food is complete greasy ass u gotta cut the with a plastic spoon, and the dress code prohibits shoe laces and drawstrings:francis:

I apologize for the how long this post turned out to be, but believe it or not i could go on to the extent that at this point im just getting started. 99% of the time we are dependent on these meds for LIFE breh. And no matter how blessed one is sooner or later life gone throw u a curve ball. There are so many variables man. At the end of the day its on us how and when we decide to swing the bat, but when u a black man in America u will find more often than not when it comes to prosecutors, judges, and juries, the degree of accountability u are held is usually way less sympathetic than that of our cackish peers. And aside from the usual biases, we are also far less likely statistically to have a parent or relative who can afford to shell out the insane amount of bread to cover bail, let alone lawyer and court fees.

Breh said he been down ten months so if i was to make an educated guess i would say that it sounds like he beat the case but had to sit down for a minute just waiting for his "speedy trial" to play out. And by beat, i mean he was lucky enough to get probation from the "benevolent" judge based on his mental illness and i dont wanna just assume his fukk up was petty with no info to go on, but somehow i doubt he killed or seriously injured anyone. Even if he snatched a purse i dont think we would be seeing breh before the next wave of new posters are halfway to OG status.

TL;DR its not that cut and dry, lots of factors with tons of variables at play and levels of accountability when it comes to keeping up with our meds.

Thank you for explaining this, man. I have seen mental illness play out with someone in my life and it turned out tragically so I am always looking to learn how I can possibly do something for someone in the future.

With everything that you said, how can your friends and family help in the situation that you run out of meds or aren't taking them etc?

And when you stop taking them, not ran out of medicine, but you stopped taking them because you think you don't need them... is that still something that you have to watch out for in your life? Do you sometimes have that thought (something telling you not to take the meds) and you have to actively fight it? Or did you do it once, and then you found out in a bad way that you really do need the meds, and you plan to never stop taking them again if you can help it?

Thanks breh. Believe me, I know as well first hand how helpless and painful it is watching someone you love so deeply self destruct and the impact it leaves behind. And i say this with all seriousness i wouldnt wish that shyt on my worst enemy.

First thing u have to realize and make peace with is no matter what u do, or how hard u try, ultimately short of having power of attorney/conservatorship like with that britney spears ordeal, u are very limited in what u can do. And even then its still an uphill, and in most cases a hill on top of a mountain, battle. So with that said i just want to take a second to let u know, and i dont say this hollowly or superficially, but with pure conviction, do NOT fall into the trap of blaming yourself or anyone else who wasnt actively hindering the well being of the brave soul who fought valiantly but ultimately succumbed to this tragedy u had to endure.

As much as we struggle to maintain, our disease is not our lone burden to bear. Everyone who loves us is just as much affected as we are. Its a greedy, selfish, disrespectful b*stard of a disease. It dont discriminate, it dont play favorites, and it isnt satisfied with hurting us alone. Anyone who dares to step into its domain can catch that work, it has no pity and it doesnt take prisoners. When it steals someone we love, we become the survivors. But while it can rape our minds and take our lives, it can never take our hearts or souls from those survivors we entrust them to.

The best advice i would offer from personal experience, is to listen to ur heart. Dont second guess ur instincts. Ultimately u can lead a horse to water breh, u know how the rest goes. All u can do is be encouraging and sort of like a voice of reason. Try to have a counter point ready for whatever reason they may feel they shouldnt tale their meds. They dont like the side effects, remind them those side effects diminish the more they take their meds, and taking them correctly is the key to overcoming thise side effects. They say they feel fine without them, instead of pointing out ways they arent fine(because usually we wont see or accept it at that point)try to tell them they will feel even better after the meds are in their system. If all else fails and u feel they are spiraling, do what u gotta do and go file those 302 papers. They may hate u for it at the time, but once they are themselves again they will usually get over it. The important thing is to not be adversarial about it. We need to feel like u are on our side. This can be very difficult as paranoia is usually a major factor here. We may have very real and serious delusions the people who love us the most are not only against us, but even actively out to harm us. Honestly the best advice i can offer there is to fall back altogether. If u someone seems completely uninterested in us it can make it seem less likely they are an agent of our destruction. Why would someone who is out to get us be completely indifferent to us?

There is no real solid strategy as the way the disease effects us can be very unpredictable. This is why u can not assign fault to urself or them. Even with the best of intentions shyt can always go left. The 302 is probably the safest bet, just make sure u are involved with the doctors as they usually take their job more serious when they know the patient is loved and advocated for. Especially when dealing with a society of discrimination.

I hope this was helpful and i will try to add to it as more comes to mind.

Thank you for your candid response. I think you picked up on my intent right away, but I didn't mind clarifying for others. I wish you and everybody peace, and to continue to make practical decisions.
:salute: Maybe its the mental illness talking but since stumbling on this site between the gems of game and hilarious fukkery my day to day life and mental well being have been generally trending upward. Helps knowing im not alone, that even alot of the "normies" can be batshyt crazy(mostly in a good way).

Nice to know we only a click away from being able to kick it and can come and go as we like without worrying about being rude or seeming antisocial.
