Went through this kinda. ...mom got hooked on crack ....dad sells crack on a high level in the mid 80s....grandmother takes my sister and I...... we move to suburban Dallas Texas mostly funded by my dad......from age 7-15 i lived aroundwhites my best friends were white ......Dad gets busted and locked up we got evicted had to leave the burbs()...back in the hood and now having to deal with the brehs wondering about your blackness i was always the Nerd for whatever reason or wanna be white .......it still lingers til this day but yeah I learned to embrace my blackness more than the hoodest of the hoodest and the blackest of the blackest

this is one of my biggest fears as a parent. i want my children to have the best education and experience things i never got to as a child, but i don't want to do that at the expense of them questioning their identity.

My parents taught me well. When I was surrounded by cacs in high school and university I never lost who I am and I always went hard for "us'

My highschool principle prob assumed I was a thug up until my last year when she finally looked at the student stats... Next thing you knew I was he best bud

She had a talk about taking me under he wing like she was saving me from my nikkaz and I told her in plain words I wasn't gonna be her snitch or homie esp when I had spend the last 4 years trying to get her to run a black history class that was part of the curriculum.

They shut us down every year saying not enough people signed up and my last year I rounded up enough students for the minimum requirement and they said they had no instructor

After that we didn't talk again, she held a grudge made me grauduate early claimed I had enough credits and I didn't go out with my class on commencement or get a PIC in the year book. Top 3 in my graduating year too. Black excellence. Used to shyt on cacs in history class hard too
